Professional Weather Stations with Precipitation Measurement Technology

Image
If your climate is anything like ours here in the Pacific Northwest , you have probably been preparing for the upcoming rainy season. For operations that require accurate measurement of rain/precipitation, Columbia Weather offers several different weather station models, each with a different precipitation measurement technology, for reliable, on-the-spot weather monitoring. Options include Doppler radar, tipping bucket, impact, and optical sensors. Each measurement type has its advantages and disadvantages. This resource on our website might help you determine which is best for your application. And if that doesn’t answer all your questions, our personal customer service technicians can help you choose what is best for your requirements. Precipitation in its various forms can have significant impact on a range of operations, making it crucial to have a reliable source for current weather conditions. The new Pulsar 100™ Weather Station from Columbia Weather Systems offers the latest technology in rich precipitation data.   The 24-GHz Doppler radar precipitation-only monitoring system was developed in response to the requirements of Ferrari for vehicle testing, and “will be useful for applications that require fast response, high resolution, and precipitation types,” according to Nader Khoury, CWS president. “The Pulsar 100 is a powerful sensor with the latest technology that gives us rich data for multiple types of precipitation.” The Pulsar 100 sensor distinguishes precipitation types such as rain, freezing rain, hail, snow and sleet. It is maintenance-free, making it useful in areas that are difficult to access. The low-energy sensor detects precipitation from the first drop, enabling users to make imme...

Which rain measurement technology is best?

Image
Tipping Bucket? Impact? Optical? Doppler radar? How can you know which rain measurement technology is the best for your weather station? Whether you just need to know if it rained and the track is wet, or when the rain began, or whether it is rain or snow, the different technologies each have their advantages. • The Orion Weather Station's impact rain gauge requires no maintenance and is able to detect hail. • Tipping bucket rain gauges are the most widely used in the world. • The Pulsar's Doppler radar precipitation sensor is the fastest responding with resolution of 0.01 mm. Click here for our new tutorial that outlines the pros and cons of each technology. And if you still can't decide, feel free to give us a call!
