Waxing Nostalgic for Throwback Thursday – prompted by Oregon AMS meeting honoring retired NWS meteorologist George Miller

Throwback Thursday – Circa 1990 meteorologist George Miller reached out to Hinds Instruments to co-sponsor this Northwest Winter Weather brochure with the local National Weather Service. Desktop publishing was a relatively new technology. George provided the content. We did the layout and printing with an ad on the back of the brochure.

After that, George periodically wrote “Weather Watching” articles for our ReCap newsletter. When he was teaching at Marylhurst University he reached out to us (Columbia Weather Systems by then) to sponsor their Climate Change Forum, which we were glad to do.

Tuesday evening we had the pleasure of George presenting at the monthly meeting of the Oregon Chapter of the American Meteorological Society. George served as president of the Oregon AMS for a number of years – he and his wife hosting the summer picnic in their backyard. Tuesday George and his wife were presented with a lifetime membership in the chapter – way overdue! We are grateful for his many years of service to the AMS and the community.
