Weather Station Adds Value With Lightning Detection

Pulsar 800 model with lightning detection

Did you know that lightning can strike as far as 25 miles away from its parent thunderstorm?

This Lightning Safety Week, we are joining the National Weather Service’s effort to spread awareness about the hazards of lightning.

Knowing and following proven guidelines can reduce the risk of injury or death, whether at home or on the job.

Lightning data can be critical for safety decision-making in a range of industries including power utility, transportation, water treatment, and facility management operations.

The Pulsar 800 weather station model from Columbia Weather Systems includes an integrated sensor that analyzes radio wave emission of the lightning and delivers a count of recognized strikes within a 10 km (6.2 mile) radius.

Meteorological measurements include wind speed, wind direction, temperature, relative humidity, barometric pressure, solar radiation, and precipitation. It is designed for professional applications and provides reliable data, even in extreme conditions.

Customers include Nucor, Genon Energy, West Chicago Waste Water Treatment Plant, and Bay Area Rapid Transit.
